The Disease of Selfishness
A Global Pandemic of Wetiko
When you look at the world today what do you see? What kind of problems do we face and why do we face them? Do you feel like the world is becoming better or worse? Are we living our lives in a good and sustainable way? Are we building a better world for our children?
I want to share some sobering facts with you:
We are in a moment of collective spiritual crisis. People, especially young people, are abandoning institutional religion because it’s synthetic . 30% of progressive liberals - an identity shared by the majority of Americans - no longer believe in God . And less than 50% Of U.S. adults belong to a religious community .
The year is 2022 and yet the worship of false idols dominates life on earth. The worship of money is the root cause of the dis-ease rotting away at the soul of humankind. This idol worship is causing us to destroy our air, our water, our soils and our lives. For what? For money. What is money? Why do we worship it? What does the worship of false idols do to our being?
❤️🔥 The Lord our God instructs us: “You shall have no other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20:3:).
The original commandment is thou shalt not worship false idols.
❤️🔥 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. (1 Timothy 6:10)
There are many deadly viruses in life but the most deadly virus is that of greed and selfishness. Wetiko is a word that comes to us from the Cree Tribe in Canada. Wetiko is a word that refers to an evil person who never worries about the well-being of others.
We, humankind, are suffering a collective psychosis. Psychosis is the disruption to a person's thoughts and perceptions that make it difficult for them to recognize what is real and what is not. This dis-ease of the soul is a parasite of the mind and it being acted en masse on the world stage. This mind-virus—which Indigenous people call wetiko—covertly operates through the unconscious blind spots in the human psyche, rendering people oblivious to their own madness and compelling them to act against their own best interests.
❤️🔥 No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. (Matthew 6:24)
When I look at the world today, I bear witness to the worship of pagan idols. I see the world worshiping of the false idol of money. I witness organizations masquerading as Church’s while glorifying money, hate and division. I see a history of blasphemous acts all in the name of Yeshua the Christ, the messenger of love and peace. I witness “pastors” purchasing private jets and living a material life of luxury. This is a world which puts money before God. This moment we are living through is the end of a cycle of time.
When the western world came to the shore of the Americas, they called members of the tribes savages. A savage is defined as a brutal or vicious person. In my mind, a savage is one who lives without respect for life and is infected with the virus of selfishness and greed. Savages live without respect for nature. Yet the indigenous peoples are the only ones whom have lived in harmony with nature for thousands of years. Many are now calling the embrace of indigenous wisdom to help save the world.
It’s no coincidence that almost every single sector of industry is contributing to the planet’s downfall, either. A deeper issue underlies our collective responsibility in the malaise enveloping the planet’s ecosystems: to cure the wetiko infecting the human spirit.
The insanity Paul writes about is the idea we are separate from nature. The idea we can use nature and bend it to our will is insane. We are made of the same air, earth, water, fire and spirit. When we corrupt water and we drink it, we kill ourselves. When we pollute the air and breathe it, we kill ourselves. When we tarnish the land and eat food from it, we kill ourselves. This is the definition of insanity and the meaning of wetiko. To truly bring ourselves into harmony with the natural world, we must return to seeing ourselves - the human family - as part of nature.
The Indigenous peoples of America teach that we are all related. The study of genetics confirms that our DNA is the same DNA in all of life. We are relatives to the plant, animal and fungi kindoms.
❤️🔥 Jesus said, If those who lead you say to you, See, the kingdom is in the sky, then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, It is in the sea, then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father. But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty.
The world is a reflection of what is going on inside our hearts and our minds. To change the world around us, we have to change the world within us. It is time for us to look in the mirror and ask ourselves:
- Am I living from a place of Wetiko?
- Am I proud of the world I am building for my children and my children's children?
For thousands of years, the good followers of Yeshua have been lied to, misled and manipulated by the religions calling themselves Christianity. The original gospels were abandoned in favor of creating books that served the Masters of Money and Power. But fear not for the Holy Spirit can do all things.
❤️🔥 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths (Prov. 3:5-6)
It is now time to remember what it means to be true Christian. Therefore, I will seek to eliminate the selfishness in my life. I promise to use my gifts, my talents, and my resources to do good and to give my life in service to make this world a better place for my family, for the human family, and for the next seven generations that come after me.
